LA CALERA - EGG BUSINESS
La Calera is a self-reliant vertically integrated modern egg production facility that guarantees its efficiency in every stage of egg production.
Every stage of its production is closely controlled to guarantee a safe and cost effective operation and obtain an excellent quality product.
Running its own breeding stock farm gives extra control over pullet production, residues and disease. La Calera breeds selected parent lines to supply its layer farm with the best genetics available.
Its own modern egg hatchery, assures the best break out and chick health results. Day-old chicks are hatched, vaccinated and sexed under strict sanitary controls.
Pullets are reared in elevated cages from day 1. Especial attention is given on pullet weight and body structure to prepare the birds for their future laying stage.
The feed mill works on a 24/7 basis to supply the farms with fresh feed. Every ration is tested for rancidity, micro toxins, residues and pesticides. According to the hen's age, the mills provides the farm with the most nutritious feed that guarantees the hen´s correct development.
La Calera runs one of the largest natural-gas facilities in Latin America. Ecological methane gas is produced from chicken manure and used to heat chick houses helping reduce energy costs.
Eggs: Sorting and processing
We have a machine that classifies the eggs by size and shell's color. With these machine we can process 118,000 eggs per hour. The eggs that we process are clasified, packaged and dispatched the same day that they had been produced. Every egg is printed with alimentary ink and register the expiration date and a code that allows us to know which group of hens layed that egg.
